Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services

The Department of Human Service’s Division of Rehabilitation Services is the state’s lead agency serving individuals with disabilities. DRS works in partnership with disabled people and their families to assist them in making informed choices to achieve full community participation through employment, education, and independent living opportunities.

DRS offers free or low-cost assistance vocational rehabilitation services to eligible individuals with disabilities. They provide supports to help people find, get, and keep a job. They also have a Work Incentive Planning and Assistance Program to help people who receive SSI/SSDI benefits understand how working will affect their benefits.

Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation

DVR believes that anyone with a disability who wants to work, can work, regardless of the type or severity of their disability. DVR provides a wide variety of individualized services for people with disabilities. These services may allow you to reach your employment goals and live independently.

Services can include: benefits planning; vocational guidance and counseling; short or long term training; job seeking skills; job development and job coaching; assistive technology; needed accommodations to participate with DVR and on the job.

DVR staff has specific expertise in many aspects of disabilities. They work to support you in employment, your community and living independently.

Job Accommodation Network (JAN)

JAN is the leading source of free, expert, and confidential guidance on job accommodations and disability employment issues. JAN provides free one-on-one practical guidance and technical assistance on job accommodation solutions, Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act and related legislation, and self-employment options for people with disabilities.

Social Security Ticket to Work Program

Social Security’s Ticket to Work program supports career development for Social Security disability beneficiaries ages 18 through 64 who want to work. The Ticket program is free and voluntary. The Ticket program connects job seekers with free employment support services that best fit their needs. The Ticket program allow SSI/SSDI beneficiaries to keep their benefits while they explore employment, receive vocational rehabilitation services, and gain work experience. Cash benefits and Medicaid or Medicare often continue throughout their transition to work, and there are protections in place to help individuals return to benefits if they are unable to continue working due to their disability.

Work Incentive Planning & Assistance Program (WIPA)

WIPA provides information about work and benefits to people who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) because of a disability. WIPA helps beneficiaries by providing information about the availability of work supports. WIPAs also provide accurate and individualized information about the effect of work on benefits and health insurance.

ADA National Network

The ADA National Network provides informal guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other disability-related laws. The 10 regional Centers that comprise the ADA National Network staff a toll-free information line and respond to inquiries submitted online via email.
