Disability Coaching

Empowering people who live with disability to thrive with disability

What is disability coaching?

Disability coaching is individualized support that is focused on you - your vision, your growth, and your becoming.  Our professional guidance and empathic support help create meaningful movement in your desired direction. Our coaching clients have access to our expertise as disability researchers, clinicians, and creatives who are committed to empowering your capacity to rise and igniting your inner drive to thrive.

Common areas of coaching focus are: adaption to disability and chronic illness, self-acceptance, disability identity integration, independent living, community access, stress management, wellness action, executive functioning, relationships and friendships.

Who is disability coaching for?

Disability coaching is for anyone with any type of disability who wants personalized support to explore their potential, navigate new paths, and courageously strive for a deeper sense of satisfaction, wholeness, and joy.

Although many of our coaching clients have lived with disability their entire lives, many more are new to the experience of disability. A recent injury, new diagnosis, or change in functional abilities may have turned their lives upside down. Perhaps they now find themselves without steady ground to stand on or a familiar body-mind experience in which to find comfort. For these individuals, coaching is a skilled companion that helps them integrate disability into a newfound sense of self and strive bravely toward their desirable vision for the future.

We consider it an honor and privilege to accompany our clients - irrespective of where they are on their journey - and be a lighthouse of understanding, wisdom, and hope that guides their [new] way.

What's the difference between counseling and coaching?

There are distinct differences between counseling and coaching services. Simply stated, counseling focuses on a person's psychological difficulties. It aims to understand the dynamics that are causing symptoms and to help clients develop coping skills and strategies to reduce or eliminate them. Coaching, on the other hand, is less about looking backward and more about looking forward. Coaching is a dynamic process that focuses on identifying obstacles, unlocking potential, setting goals, and following through with an action plan to create positive, desired change.
