Disability Coaching
What is disability coaching?
Disability coaching is individualized support that is strategically designed to assist you in achieving the goals, growth, and vision that you set out for yourself. You can think of coaching as a compass - a guiding tool - on your path forward. Through disability coaching services, our clients have access to a wealth of expertise, resources, feedback, and empathic support to keep them rooted in their own story and empowered by the resiliency of the disability community.
Our coaching clients come from diverse backgrounds and with disabilities across the spectrum. We appreciate that client goals are highly varied and often involve considerations and complexities that are unique to the disability experience. Common areas of disability coaching focus include: independent living, adaptation to disability and chronic illness, executive functioning, friendships & relationships, community access, and self-advocacy.
What's the difference between counseling and coaching?
There are distinct differences between counseling and coaching services. Simply stated, counseling focuses on a person's psychological and emotional difficulties. It aims to understand the dynamics that are causing symptoms and to help clients develop coping skills and strategies to reduce or eliminate them. Coaching, on the other hand, is less about looking backward and more about looking forward. Coaching focuses on identifying barriers, setting goals, and following through with an action plan to create positive, desired change.
